Volgende land dat ik door zal gaan is Rusland.
Een kaart heb ik eind vorig jaar besteld en zal hopelijk deze week wel binnen komen.

De route is inmiddels redelijk zeker.
Eerst zou ik via Volgograd naar de westgrens van Kazachstan.
Dat heb ik veranderd om de volgende redenen;

• de lengte van de route door Kazachstan werd ruim 3500 km, veel te veel voor 1 maand visum,
• de toestand van de weg was zeer onbekend, datgene wat ik zag en later ook hoorde maakte het voor de Quest vrijwel onmogelijk deze route te nemen zonder risico's van vast lopen en beschadiging van de fiets.

De huidige route zal lopen vanaf  Volgograd noordwaarts langs de rivier de Wolga om Kazachstan heen. 

Kazachstan zelf zal ik ingaan vanuit het noorden, waardoor ik de kortste route door dat land kan nemen naar de Chinese grens.

Voordat ik de grens van Kazachstan oversteek zal ik ook over de uitlopers van de bergrug de Oeral moeten.

Uit reisverslagen lees ik dat dit niet een groot obstakel zal zijn.

Om dit land in te kunnen zal ik een visum moeten hebben.

Een flink obstakel, waar ik nog wel zorgen over heb.

Inmiddels heb ik contacten met enkele fietsers die recent in Rusland hebben gefietst.

Daaruit hoop ik weer veel info te krijgen.

Ten aanzien van de taal; het zal de moeite waard zijn om wat van de Russische taal te leren. 

Immers, de taal kan worden gebruikt vanaf de Poolse grens tot aan de Chinese grens

Next country I will go is Russia.

The route is now reasonably certain.

In the first plan I would go from Volgograd to the western border of Kazakhstan into that country.

I've changed this for the following reasons;

• the length of the route through Kazakhstan was 3500 kilometers, way too much for one month visa,
• the condition of the road was quite unknown, probably sometimes very bad, what I saw and heard later, made ​​it nearly impossible for the Quest, to take this route without risk of jamming and damage to the bike.

The current route will run from Volgograd north along the River Volga. Kazakhstan I shall come in from the north, so I can take the shortest route to the Chinese border.

Before crossing the border of Kazakhstan, I also have to cross the foothills of the Ural ridge.

From the travelogues I did read, I think that this will not be a major obstacle.

For Russia I do need a visa.

A big obstacle, I still worry about.

Recently I made contacts with cyclists who have cycled in Russia recently.

I hope to receive a lot of info.

About the language; I think it will be wise to invest time and money to have a short language course. This proofed to be very useful!

The Russian language can be used from the border of Poland / Ukraine until the border of Kazakhstan / China!
